Product Overview

Brahma FT11 Phototransistor Flame Sensor is a flame detection sensor using a phototransistor sensing element, designed for oil burner systems and biomass burners using fuels such as pellets, wood, and other biomass materials.

The Brahma FT11 detects light emitted by the flame and changes its output current according to the light intensity reaching the sensing element. The sensor operates within the visible light spectrum of 300–750 nm and is designed for connection to compatible Brahma burner control units.

The FT11 operates within the visible light spectrum of 300–750 nm, with a maximum operating voltage of +12 V DC and an operating temperature range of −20°C to +70°C. The standard connection cable length is 620 mm.

Operating Principle

The Brahma FT11 uses a phototransistor to detect light emitted by the flame. When the light intensity reaching the sensing element changes, the phototransistor output current changes accordingly and provides a signal to the burner control unit to detect the presence of the flame.

The FT11 functions as the flame sensing element, while control, monitoring, and safety functions are managed by the burner control unit. The sensor is designed for compatible Brahma control units and can replace certain previous FC photocells when the application and control unit compatibility requirements are met.

Brahma FT11 Phototransistor dimensional drawing
Brahma FT11 Phototransistor dimensional drawing

The dimensional drawing helps verify the FT11 construction and mounting position before replacement. The FT11 mounting plane has a 34 mm center-to-center distance between the two mounting holes, corresponding to 17 mm from the center to each hole, a Ø8.5 mm central opening, and uses Ø4 mm mounting screws.

Key Features

The Brahma FT11 uses a phototransistor sensitive to light within the 300–750 nm range, covering the visible light spectrum. The sensor is suitable for flame detection in oil burners and biomass burners using fuels such as pellets, wood, seeds, and other biomass materials.

The Brahma FT11 is available with front-view or side-view flame detection, allowing the sensor to suit different burner installation positions. The sensing element is protected by a cap at the flame detection area.

The FT series is available in three sensitivity levels identified by casing color: green for low sensitivity, red for medium sensitivity, and blue for high sensitivity. When selecting a replacement FT11, check the casing color, light detection direction, cable termination, and burner control unit model.

Comparison of Brahma FT11 and FT13 Phototransistor Flame Sensors

The Brahma FT11 and FT13 are both phototransistor flame sensors designed for oil and biomass burners. Both models use the same flame detection principle but differ in their casing design and mounting method.

ApplicationOil and biomass burnersOil and biomass burners
Spectral Sensitivity Range300–750 nm300–750 nm
Light Detection DirectionFront or SideFront or Side
Mounting DesignFlange mountingCylindrical body mounting

The FT11 uses a flange with two mounting points to secure the sensor, while the FT13 features a cylindrical body with a different mounting arrangement. When replacing a sensor, check the model, mounting design, light detection direction, sensitivity level, and cable termination of the existing unit.

Applications of the Brahma FT11 Phototransistor Flame Sensor

The Brahma FT11 is used in burner systems that require flame detection and monitoring within the visible light spectrum. It is suitable for:

  • Oil burner systems
  • Biomass burners using pellets, wood, or other biomass fuels
  • Systems using compatible Brahma burner control units
  • Flame sensor maintenance and replacement
  • Applications requiring flame detection within the 300–750 nm spectral range

During installation, the FT11 should be positioned where it can reliably detect the flame while minimizing interference from ambient light. Because the phototransistor is polarized, the light blue wire must be correctly connected to the Neutral terminal of the burner control unit.
