The UV2/N operates within a temperature range of −20°C to +60°C, has a nominal lifetime of approximately 10,000 hours, and can be positioned up to 1 m from the UV source. The standard connection cable length is 655 mm.
Operating Principle
The Brahma UV2/N uses a UV phototube to detect ultraviolet radiation emitted by the flame. The phototube consists of a gas-filled glass bulb containing two electrodes. When AC voltage is applied and UV radiation within the 190–290 nm range reaches the sensing element, an ionization process generates an electric current that provides a signal indicating the presence of the flame.
The signal from the UV2/N is sent to the burner control unit for flame monitoring. The sensor is particularly suitable for applications using gaseous fuels or combinations of liquid and gaseous fuels, where UV radiation detection is used to monitor the combustion status.

The dimensional drawing helps verify the sensor construction and mounting position before replacement. The UV2/N has a 76 mm housing length, a Ø17 mm housing diameter, and a mounting layout with a 34 mm center-to-center distance between the two mounting holes, corresponding to 17 mm from the center to each hole, together with a Ø17.5 mm central opening.
Key Features
The Brahma UV2/N uses UV phototube technology to detect ultraviolet radiation within the 190–290 nm range. The sensor is suitable for gas burner and mixed gas/oil burner systems that require flame monitoring through a UV signal.
The UV2/N has a more compact design than the UV1, with a 76 mm housing length and a Ø17 mm diameter. This compact size makes it suitable for installation positions requiring a smaller UV sensor body.
The sensor is not sensitive to daylight and normally does not require special shielding. However, the UV2/N should not be installed close to gas-discharge light sources such as neon lamps or similar sources that may affect flame detection performance.
Comparison of Brahma UV2/N and UV1 Phototube Flame Sensors
The Brahma UV2/N and UV1 both use UV phototube technology for flame detection in burner systems. The main differences between the two models are their housing dimensions and operating temperature ranges.
| Feature | Brahma UV2/N | Brahma UV1 |
| Sensor Type | UV Phototube | UV Phototube |
| Application | Gas and gas/oil burners | Gas and gas/oil burners |
| UV Detection Range | 190–290 nm | 190–290 nm |
| Housing Length | 76 mm | 85 mm |
| Housing Diameter | Ø17 mm | Ø22 mm |
| Operating Temperature | −20°C to +60°C | −20°C to +50°C |
| Standard Cable Length | 655 mm | 655 mm |
The UV2/N has a shorter and smaller-diameter housing than the UV1 and supports an operating temperature of up to +60°C. When replacing a sensor, check the existing model, mounting dimensions, and burner control unit to select the correct product.
Applications of the Brahma UV2/N Phototube Flame Sensor
The Brahma UV2/N is used in burner systems that require flame detection and monitoring through ultraviolet radiation. It is suitable for:
- Gas burner systems
- Mixed gas and oil burner systems
- Systems requiring flame detection within the 190–290 nm UV range
- UV flame sensor maintenance and replacement
- Applications requiring a compact UV flame sensor
During installation, the UV2/N sensing area should be positioned where it can reliably detect the flame, and the sensor cable should be kept away from power and ignition cables. To maintain reliable flame detection performance, the sensor condition should be checked according to operating time and replacement is recommended after approximately 10,000 operating hours.
